Meet the Team

Morris Caribbean Publications has a team of dedicated employees. Our publishing roots date back 60 years in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In the wake of back-to-back hurricanes Irma and Maria, our islands have been devastated. Our team members who weathered the storms are doing as well as they can be under the circumstances. The main concerns for the team are the battle with mildew, mold and mosquitos and to remain stocked with basics like food, water, batteries and gas. They need dry bedding and some need clothing and tires. All are still without electricity – and may be for months – so generators or small-scale solar solutions will help them at least run refrigerators for food and perhaps water pumps to have running water for washing and bathing. And they need prayers that each day brings progress, comfort and a return to some sort of normalcy in the weeks and months ahead.

Steve Hunte is our Distribution Manager. He makes sure our monthly magazines get to more than 150 distribution points on the islands so that visitors have the most up to date information on things to do, where to shop, where to stay and eat, and how to get around. Steve is also a first-responder with the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency. He’s been out on the roads since the day before Irma hit and has worked every day since helping with rescue and relief efforts. Steve went home after Irma to find his house had been destroyed. “I was out trying to help and save people and came home to no home,” he said.

Kevin Amsler is our Art Director. He designs and paginates all our magazines and guides. He’s a longtime Virgin Islander and has been through several hurricanes over the past decades. His home had part of its roof torn off and his household suffered great water damage as a result. He’s been camping in part of the house that still has a roof and that is now mostly dry.

Barbara Thompson is our Business Manager. She handles all our accounts payable and receivable and oversees our financial matters. Like the rest of the team, she has been camping at home without power. With so much water from both hurricanes, mildew and mold are among Barbara and the team’s concerns.

Jen Ash and Kelly Shea are our Multimedia Consultants. They help local businesses with their messaging and advertising on our magazines, website and through digital services. They both have been busy not only cleaning up and navigating each day, they have been helping others. Jen and her husband Floyd (and their dog Ellie) have taken in others who have lost their home and have been feeding and housing them. Kelly has been helping elderly neighbors and her boyfriend Michael has been busy helping with cleanup and restoration at several properties in the neighborhood.

Susan Wall is our Managing Editor for St Croix This Week. Susan was off island during the hurricanes and has been wrecked with worry about her beloved St Croix, where she has lived for more than 30 years and has endured past hurricanes. She’s returning soon and does not yet know the extent of damage, if any, to her apartment but she knows her cat that was boarded while she was away is OK.

Jane DiCola is our Dock Distribution Manager and makes sure our St Thomas in A Day guide for cruise passengers and related marketing gets into the hands of cruise passengers at both cruise docks in St. Thomas. Jane was away during Irma and has not been able to get home yet. She too is hoping to get back to St Thomas and help us and her family navigate our new normal.

Lynnsy Jones is our Digital Operations Specialist. She’s based in Florida, where she too had to evacuate for Irma. She’s been maintaining our social media messaging and helping with business matters since the rest of the team has not had power, Internet and hit and miss cell service.

Charlotte Atkins is the Publisher for Morris Caribbean Publications. She’s the leader of the company, having taken the helm during the summer of 2016. She just moved across island from a condo in Red Hook to a little cottage in a neighborhood on the Northside of St. Thomas. She is grateful to have landed in the midst of a neighborhood with caring people who housed and fed her during and after Irma.
